The map below shows BT's core (backbone) fibre optic links in Mid Wales. In the last 3 years this has cost BT more than £100m. Each fibre link is capable of over 10 giga bits per second (yes, 10 GIG, not mb). This means that the backbone structure is more than capable of handling an ADSL network; each fibre (a black line on the diagram) can handle 20,000,000 simultaneous connections - plenty, considering there are only around 3,000,000 people in Wales!
